London – Written by John Caird and Paul Gordon, Jane Eyre: A Musical transforms Brontë’s celebrated novel into a sweeping theatrical production exploring independence, ambition, gothic mystery and passionate love.
West End performer Charlie Burn stars as Jane Eyre, opposite Ashley Gilmour as Edward Rochester. The cast also includes Claire Greenway as Abbot and Grace Poole; Melad Hamidi as St John and Lord Ingram; Connor Wood as John Reed and the Vicar; Jonathan Andrew Hume as Brocklehurst and Mason; Izzi Levine as Agnes, Leah, Jane’s mother and Mary Ingram; Hannah Lindsey as Scatcherd and Bertha Mason; Isabelle Methven as Helen Burns and Bessie; Gemma Page as Reed and Fairfax; and Eve Shanu-Wilson as Blanche and Sophie.
The roles of Young Jane and Adèle are shared by Poppy Jason and Emily-Rose Samuel.
The new production is co-directed by John Caird, whose extensive credits include adapting and co-directing the original production of Les Misérables in the West End, on Broadway and internationally. He also recently directed the critically acclaimed stage adaptation of Spirited Away at the London Coliseum.
Caird is joined by Broadway performer and director Megan McGinnis, known for her appearances in Beauty and the Beast, Little Women and Beetlejuice.
The creative team features choreographer Georgina Lamb, set and costume designer Morgan Large, sound designer Andrew Johnson, lighting designer James Whiteside, musical director and supervisor Ben Kubiak, and casting director Sarah-Jane Price.
First staged in Toronto in 1996, Jane Eyre: A Musical opened on Broadway in 2000 and received five Tony Award nominations. For the musical’s 30th-anniversary year, Adam Blanshay Productions has partnered with its original Canadian producers, David and Hannah Mirvish, to bring the show to UK audiences.
Accompanied by an epic score, the production presents Jane Eyre—widely regarded as one of literature’s earliest feminist heroines—to a new generation while retaining the passion, darkness and emotional power of Brontë’s original story.
An EP entitled Highlights from the UK Premiere Cast is now available to stream and download across the usual music platforms. A video for the song Sirens has also been released.
